Herd Statistics - 2009
Our role is to supply clients, whether they be stud breeders, dairy or beef farmers, with bulls that are easy to handle, provide a stress free calving, and the resulting progeny command a premium.
Ardo Herefords were established in 1960. The cow herd is focused on commercial beef production and must compete with and complementing large scale lamb breeding and finishing. The cows are farmed on steep Hunterville hills and the young cattle are grown on fertile Rangitikei flats. The herd continues to grow and at 600 calves per year, is one of New Zealand’s largest recorded beef herds.”
The only fashions we follow is the drive to improve the performance of our cattle and their performance on our balance sheet. Our market tells us what it wants. Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs) play an integral role within our program. The traits for calving ease and fertility are as important as milk, growth and carcase. This performance focus, combined with a large cattle population, enables us to maximise genetic gain.
